FER SCHOOL: FEMINISM AND RELIGION CALL

Do we have the courage to question our own beliefs, worldviews, and practices? Do we possess the strength to confront the structural violence perpetrated by patriarchal institutions, both secular and religious? Are we willing to listen to different perspectives and respect opinions, even when we disagree with them? Are we ready to honor human freedom and the right of individuals to believe or not to believe, to ask questions, to doubt, and to seek answers? Is it possible to be both a feminist and a believer?

If your answer to these questions is “yes,” we encourage you to apply for the first online FER School: Feminism and Religion. The FER School is designed for both women and men who wish to critically examine their beliefs, attitudes, knowledge, and practices concerning human rights and freedoms, and explore how gender stereotypes shape the lives of women and men in both family and society.

The goal of the FER School is to deconstruct the foundations of gender stereotypes and promote egalitarian gender models based on both scientific and religious arguments. Classical and contemporary sources in philosophy, theology, history, sociology, and other disciplines will be analyzed using methods such as feminist anthropology, historical criticism, the hermeneutics of doubt, and gender-sensitive linguistics.

The FER School is FREE and aimed at individuals who wish to engage with academic-level courses (3 hours per week of lectures and discussions, culminating in a final academic paper).

For the Summer Semester of the FER School (February 20, 2023 – June 2, 2023), we offer five courses on the following dates:

Gender, Religion, and the Media – Monday, 18:00-19:30

Gender and Judaism – Tuesday, 18:00-19:30

Gender, Literature, and Spirituality – Wednesday, 18:00-19:30

Feminist Theology – Thursday, 18:00-19:30

Gender, Religion, and Violence – Friday, 18:00-19:30

Lectures and reading materials for each week will be available on the Moodle platform for all participants. Participants are required to review the lecture content and assigned readings to prepare for discussions, which will take place according to the schedule outlined above. Participation in discussions and completion of weekly tasks are mandatory. Three excused absences are allowed with prior notice. Participants who regularly attend classes and complete the final academic paper will receive a certificate at the end of the course, listing the thematic units covered (45 in total, equivalent to 4 ECTS credits, which are recognized by some universities).

Participants may enroll in a maximum of three courses per semester.

To apply for enrollment, please submit:

  1. A motivation letter
  2. A CV, specifying which of the offered courses you wish to attend. You may choose one or more courses.

Applications must be submitted by February 10, 2023 to: ferskola.tpo@gmail.com. You will receive a response to your application by February 15, 2023.

The FER School is organized by the TPO Foundation from Sarajevo, in partnership with the Ecumenical Women’s Initiative from Omiš. For more information, please visit: https://ferskola2022.onlinebase.net.
