Do we have the courage to question our own beliefs, worldviews, and practices? Do we possess the strength to stand against the structural violence perpetuated by patriarchal institutions, both secular and religious? Are we open to hearing different perspectives and respecting opinions that differ from our own, even if we disagree with them? Are we prepared to honor human freedom, the right to believe or not believe, to ask questions, doubt, and seek answers? Is it possible to be both a feminist and a believer?
If the answer to these questions is yes, we invite you to apply for the first online FER School: Feminism and Religion. The FER School is designed for individuals who wish to critically examine their beliefs, attitudes, knowledge, and practices concerning human rights and freedoms, and who want to explore how gender stereotypes shape the lives of women and men in both the family and society.
The aim of the FER School is to deconstruct gender stereotypes and build egalitarian gender models based on both scientific and religious arguments. Classical and contemporary philosophical, theological, historical, sociological, and other sources will be analyzed using feminist anthropology, historical criticism, the hermeneutics of doubt, and gender-sensitive linguistics.
The FER School is aimed at those seeking academic-level courses (with a commitment of 3 hours per week, including lectures, discussions, and the completion of a final academic paper).
During the summer semester of the FER School (February 1, 2022 – May 13, 2022), we offer five courses on the following dates:
Religion, Gender, and the Media – Monday, 19:00–20:30
Gender, Religion, and Peacebuilding – Tuesday, 17:30–19:00
Philosophy and Gender – Wednesday, 18:00–19:30
Religion and Gender-Based Violence – Thursday, 19:00–20:30
History of Feminism in East and West – Friday, 18:30–20:00
Lectures and reading materials will be available each week on the Moodle platform for FER School participants. Participants are expected to read the lectures and materials in preparation for the discussions held at the scheduled course times. Participation in discussions and the completion of weekly tasks are mandatory, though up to three excused absences are permitted. Participants who actively engage in the course and submit a final academic paper will receive a certificate upon completion, which includes a list of the thematic units covered in the courses (45 in total, equivalent to 4 ECTS, recognized by some faculties).
